Far away from the public eye, war rages in the regional psychiatric asylum. Wild patient behavior and abuse by medical staff have leaked to a disturbed public. With the recent transfer of R.P. McMurphy from a prison work crew, the tenuous balance maintained among the patients is spinning out of control. Head Nurse Ratched, in an effort to maintain peace, clashes directly with McMurphy, who, diagnosed as a psychopath, continually provokes both the patients and the staff.
